Harrogate District Hospital is experiencing unprecedented high levels of admissions and would ask members of the public to only use the A&E Department if emergency medical attention is needed. We would always encourage the public to consider using other services that are available to ensure that patients with emergency conditions can be seen as soon as possible.

If you feel you need medical attention but are unsure where to turn, please contact NHS 111. If you feel that you do need to see a clinician, please consider ringing your GP practice to book an appointment with them or request an appointment at the extended hours Primary Care Hubs in Harrogate (and Ripon if you are a Ripon patient) which are open on Saturday morning. NHS 111 is still available when the practice is closed if you feel you need out of hours non-emergency medical help and advice.



circled_dayConsultations with patients are by appointment. This is intended to be more convenient for patients by reducing waiting times in surgeries.

To make an appointment, please telephone the surgery between 8.00am and 6.00pm Monday to Friday.

Most GP consultations are allocated 10 minutes. However, if you feel you need a longer appointment please tell the receptionist when booking.

Nursing tasks can take different amounts of time, and the receptionists may need to check what your appointment is for in order to book the right length of time with the right nurse.

Phlebotomy (blood test) appointments are usually only 8 minutes long.

If you feel that your problem is urgent or you have a medical query you will be telephoned by the duty doctor who will be pleased to help you with either a telephone consultation or by allocating an appointment. The receptionist will take you name and ask the duty doctor to call you back, see below.

Urgent appointments and medical queries are handled through telephone contact with the 'duty doctor' in order to provide the most clinically appropriate service.  This service can also be used if you think your problem needs to be dealt with more quickly than the next available routine appointment, you need medical advice quickly, or may not need a face-to-face consultation - ask the receptionist to put you on the telephone list and the duty doctor will ring you back asap. The response times very pending on clinical work load, but we aim to return most calls within one hour, unless it is an emergency, which are dealt with instantly. Please bear in mind that that our doctors do home visits between 1200 and 1400 and may not be able to call you back during those times (unless your call is urgent).
