Notice to Patients

If you have an appointment booked with a Doctor, Nurse or any other health care professional, patients are now asked to bring a mask to wear for their appointment.

You need to wear a mask at all times during your appointment. Wearing a mask protects yourself and others around you from germs.

It is important that we all do our part to keep everyone safe.

NHS Data Collection (GPDPR)

In May we were given notice of the government's plans to group together a number of existing data collection schemes into one unified collection undertaken by NHS Digital, who will then make that data available to other governmental, academic and private organisations with a legitimate justification to access that information. There has been very significant concern about these plans both from GPs and patients, and a considerable amount of publicity from the medical and national press, but rather less from NHS Digital.

As a practice we are in a very difficult position; on one hand we have a legal & contractual requirement to make patient data available as instructed, on the other we have deep concerns about the lack of information and engagement from NHS Digital, as well as some of the ramifications of the data collection itself, and the very short timescale that was enforced. We decided to notify the NHS that we would not be participating in the data collection as proposed, and not to enable sharing of any patient records with the GPDPR at this stage. Here is the text of the letter we sent, highlighting our concerns.

I am pleased to say that, as a result of the pressure that has been put on them, the government has decided to delay implementation of this scheme until September and I hope that they will use that time to engage openly with doctors and patients so that we all can have complete confidence in the process, and with the use that will be made of the data that is collected.
